SANDPOTS OF THE RED CENTRE

These stunning pots are created by Alice Springs Artist Julie Burdis..using seven different clays..These clays are then combined with oxides and ochres to produce the colours of the Red Centre...

It is imperative to get the right clays next to each other in the layering process as different clays have different shrinkages...It takes approx. 6 weeks to get a batch of sand pottery pieces ready for firing...the kiln must be heated slowly..at less than 100 degrees per hour...the pieces are then fired for approx. 12 hours...the colours of these pots vary depending on where they are placed in the kiln...Therefore each pot is unique in its shape and colour...

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT COLOURS ARE NOT ALWAYS EXACTLY WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE ON YOUR MONITOR...SOME COLOURS THROW MORE YELLOW THAN WHITE

IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE COLOUR PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE AND I WILL SEND MORE PHOTOS TO YOU..
